Rahatgarh Waterfall

Rahatgarh waterfall is a beautiful waterfall located in the Rahatgarh tahsil of district Sagar, India. Surrounded by lush green trees and dotted with ancient rocks the fall is also known as Bhalkund Jalprapat. One can also see the historical fort of Rahatgarh which is some kilometres away from here. Rahatgarh waterfall is not so Famous but it is covered with lush greenery and amazing rock formation. The height of the Rahatgarh waterfall is 38 m. In Bina River. Located at a distance of 35 km from the city of Sagar in Madhya Pradesh, it is a perfect destination if you want to come out from the hustle-bustle of the city and spend some time with nature. It is very near to the main road and a perfect spot for a day’s getaway.

Geology 

Rahatgarh Waterfall has situated on Bina River at Rahatgarh Tehsil along the Sagar- Bhopal road, 40 km away from Sagar town. Bina river originated from the Rashidpur village of Raisen district in Madhya Pradesh at an elevation of about 666m. Rahatgarh waterfall area comprised mainly two types of rocks, namely igneous rock represented by the Deccan Traps, and sedimentary rocks represented by the Vindhyans supergroup.

Vindhyan formation constitutes narrow ridges with dips escarpment slope and displaying sedimentary structures such as ripple marks, current bedding, current lineation, and bedding planes. Minor formations of less importance are represented by “Intertrappeans”, and “Recent Alluvium”.The Vindhyan around Rahatgarh belongs to the Rewa Stage of the Upper Vindhyan Group mostly represented by irregularly bedded massive, variegated colored ortho-quartzites. These are intercalated at various places with thinly bedded flagstones. A good Vindhyan patch around the Rahatgarh area is seen at Rahatgarh Ruins waterfall, conical hill, Kalianpur, Dehri, Russalpur, and Mankapur.

The volcanic flows of the Deccan trap around Rahatgarh waterfall are characterized by the presence of Intertrappean. Traps are well exposed at various sections, but all the eight flows are seen at only two places, namely Mirzapur, and Chandrapura respectively.

Infratrappaeans

These occur as thinly bedded, gravely breccias in between Vindhyan and Deccan Traps. They occur over the Vindhyan and below the traps, hence, called Infratrappaeans. They are mostly composed of angular to sub-angular Vindhyan quartzite cemented by ferruginous material. Infratrappaeans are well seen at Kalianpur Bridge and Nandian nallah.

Intratrappaeans

These are found in between flows and indicate paucity during the time of eruption of the basaltic flows. Intratrappaeans are mostly represented by impure calcareous facies; comprising principally cherty limestones. The limestones display lateral variations along the strike resulting from an impure cherty limestone to pure crystalline limestone composed of Aragonite. It is seen at HanothiaKhurd and Chandrapura.

Rahatgarh Fort

Rahatgarh town is 60 km west of Sagar on Bhopal Sagar Road and 1.74 km away from Rahatgarh waterfall. It is renowned for its battlement history, its gates, and its ruins of palaces temples, and mosques. It is picturesquely situated on the bank of the river Bina. The Rahatgarh fort stands Close to the town of Rahatgarh. Its outer wall consists of 26 enormous towers. Rahatgarh Fort is situated on the top of the northwest peak along with the range of hills approached by a long winding passage. The walls are about 100 m thick. It was originally built by Sultan Muhamad Khan in the 17th Century AD. This ancient fort is once the glory of Sagar but now it was now in a ruined state. There is also a pond at the foot of the fort. Some other places near Sagar to expend the best moments of your journey.
