Raja Ampat, an Indonesian archipelago, lies in the Coral Triangle, which stretches from the Philippines to Timor to Papua New Guinea, known as the most biodiverse marine habitat on earth. Raja Ampat, also known as the Four Kings, comprises over 1500 small islands, cays, and shoals in the northwest tip of Bird’s Head Peninsula on the island of New Guinea. History

Raja Ampat was once a part of the Sultanate of Tidore, an influential kingdom from the Maluku dynasty. The main occupation for people around this area is fishing since the area is dominated by the sea. People live in a small colony of tribes that spreads around the area. There are more than 1500 species of fish, 537 species of coral, and 699 mollusk species found in the Raja Ampat area. A remarkable 96 percent of all stony corals recorded in these islands, and 75 percent of all species, exist in the world.

Missol Island

Missol Island is located on the far-flung southern side of the Raja Ampat archipelago. Misool is known as a migratory route for big marine creatures, such as whales. How to Reach Raja Ampat Island

To reach Raja Ampat, you must first fly to Sorong, West Papua, Indonesia, usually via Jakarta or Makassar, then take a taxi to the port, catch a ferry or speedboat to Waisai (the entry point), and finally arrange a boat with your resort or homestay to your final island destination. Be prepared for cash payments for fees and taxis, and note that credit cards are not widely accepted.
