Makhtesh Ramon is a large geological crater located in the Negev desert in southern Israel. Geology

Ardon, and two table mountains Mt. Marpek and Mt. Katum. The rocks date back over 200 million years. The area is also home to a variety of unique geological features, including colorful sandstone formations, geological faults, and ancient volcanic rocks. The hills to the northeastern edge of the Makhtesh were once entirely covered by spiral ammonite fossils, ranging from the size of snails to that of tractor wheels. It is a popular destination for geologists and visitors interested in the natural history and geology of the area.

Makhtesh Ramon weather

Makhtesh Ramon Isreal has a hot desert climate, with very little rainfall and high temperatures throughout the year. Summer temperatures can reach over 40 degrees Celsius, while winter temperatures are milder, ranging from around 5 to 20 degrees Celsius. The area is also known for strong winds, particularly in the afternoons.

There are also observation points and hiking trails nearby where visitors can explore the crater and enjoy the scenic views.

Camping Makhtesh Ramon 

Camping is allowed in the Makhtesh Ramon nature reserve, and there are several campgrounds located throughout the area. Some campgrounds are located on the crater rim, while others are situated in the surrounding mountains or canyons. The campgrounds offer basic facilities, such as bathrooms and showers, and some also have picnic tables, grills, and shaded areas for visitors to use. Makhtesh Ramon Isreal is located in the Negev desert in southern Israel. The nearest airport to the place is Ramon Airport, which is located about 20 kilometers south of Mitzpe Ramon. Several airlines operate domestic and international flights to Ramon Airport. Several bus companies operate regular services to Mitzpe Ramon from major cities in Israel, including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Beer Sheva.
