The ‘Red Beach’ Unique place in the world, which you never heard before!
Sand is probably the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about the beach. However, Panjin Red Beach is not a sandy beach. It is a reed-covered wetland in one of the world’s largest reed marsh areas, in the Liaohe River Delta. The Red Beach is located in Dawa County, about 18 miles southwest of Panjin City, in the northeast province of Liaoning, China.
The colorful, though misleading, name refers to the striking seasonal seaweed of the Panjin coastline. This coastal area is covered with the plant seepweed named ‘Suaeda salsa’. It starts growing during April and May, then stays green during the summer, but starts turning vividly red in autumn.
The Red Beach is located in the biggest wetland and reed marsh area and hosts the most complicated ecosystem. The area has become home to more than 260 species of birds and 399 types of wild animals. On this Red beach, the endangered Crown Cranes and Black Beaked Gulls are also found. And that’s why the area is even called the “home of the cranes”.
The Red Beach
The seaweed Suaeda salsa spread over 51 square miles of coastal land. You can find Suaeda salsa all over the world, but you won’t find it anywhere else where the plant sprawls over such an enormous area of land.
Suaeda Salsa is the major tourist attraction in Red Beach. This type of grass is grown only in highly alkaline soils. The weed starts growing in April, and then its color is pale crimson. The main display of deep red starts in autumn, this is the time when the weed is mature.
Its sprouts are green in the spring, turn a lush jade in early summer, and explode into a range of shades of crimson during its peak viewing seasons, from late summer into early August-October.

The wetlands are also housed in ‘Liaohe Oil Field’, one of the largest oil fields in China, and a significant economic booster for the entire Panjin region. Seafood farms and rice fields compete with wildlife for food and space in this region. However, the local government has made a significant effort to further protect the local ecosystems.
Tourism in Red Beach
Panjin City was established in 1984. Since the inception of the city, Red Beach has been developed as an eco-tourism destination. The state-protected natural reserve includes a small space for the public, with wooden construction around the beach.
Due to the state-level natural reserve, tourist access is limited to a certain territory in Red beach. The best time to enjoy mature red weeds is September through early November. A raised wooden walkway has been installed to take visitors on a trail through the reserve, walking above this area of marshland with relative ease and comfort is the best experience ever.
Panjin City is accessible within China via train or bus. Nearby airports include Shenyang TaoXian International, Dalian ZhouShuiZi International, and Jinzhou XiaoLingZi connected with all big cities of the world.
