Castle of Beino or Kolodyne
Mizoram is located in the northeastern part of India and is a beautiful mountainous region. Sprinkled with splendid lakes, rivers, and mountains, it is a landlocked state in the northeast part of the country. The southern part of Mizoram boasts of a mesmerizing rock formation that resembles a castle. It is known for its geological marvel, which is the craftsmanship of nature. Set in the pristine river of Koladyne, the Castle of Beino is a splendid structure of Sandstone and siltstone rocks about 10 meters high on both sides of the river.

Culminating the high spring flows across the majestic rock structures, the Castle of Being is a lesser-explored grand canyon of Northeast India. Kolodyne or Kaladan is a river that originates from the forests of Myanmar and enters Mizoram through the Sittwe region.
This river is known as Chhimpuitui in the Mizo dialect. The river is known to form one of the most spectacular terraforming zones, unknown to many. Called the Grand Canyon of Mizoram, the Castle of Beino stands majestically, offering a wonderland to the people of Northeast India.
Hiking in this difficult terrain can be a beautiful experience. The formation is not accessible during the monsoon season; the ideal time to visit is from February to May. A motorboat can be hired to wander the whole area. A local guide with a good knowledge of the area can also be hired.
The boat journey starts from the village of Lomasu to Saphaw, from where the castle of Beino can be sighted. Access to Saphaw is via Lungdar in Saiha District, or Tuidang on the Lai District side is easier.
River Kolodyne is an important source of fresh water for the locals and an essential source of livelihood for the local fishermen. This place is yet to be explored due to its location in the deep interior of the Mizoram forest, hence it remains a virgin spot. Researchers or people who are interested in Geotourism can plan a trip to the Castle of Beino.

Each part of this Geological Marvel is a separate quarter of the Castle. The Structures resemble soldiers standing at the main entrance, the structure looks like the Kitchen and the great hall of the Queen. The River water is crystalline, creating a beautiful reflection of the structure and making it a fascinating view. The area is home to some beautiful birds and animals, making it a suitable location for watching the wildlife.

Palak Lake
The oval-shaped Palak Lake is the largest natural lake in Mizoram. It is situated near Phura village, which is about 391 km south of Aizawl. The lake covers nearly 1 sq km. It is surrounded by lush virgin forests rich in flora and fauna, such as elephants. It is believed to be a winter stopover for migrating pintail ducks.
Tokalo Wildlife Sanctuary
The Tokalo is the second largest wildlife sanctuary in the state and covers over an area of 250 sq km. It is located in the southeastern part of Saiha District. Tokalo was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 2007. The sanctuary is a semi-evergreen forest of moist deciduous trees. It is a natural habitat for a large number of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and birds.

How to get Castle of Beino
The Castle of Beino is situated some 12 hours from the Aizawl airport and some 5 hours from Saiha Town. Visitors can hire a private car from Saiha or take a Cab service up to Phura.
