Sinking of INS Khukri- During the Indo-Pak war of 1971, the Indian Navy’s INS Khukri, a frigate under the command of Captain Mahendra Nath Mulla, was tragically sunk by a Pakistani submarine, PNS Hangor, off the coast of Diu.

Loss of Lives- The sinking of INS Khukri resulted in the loss of 18 officers and 176 sailors, including Captain Mulla, who went down with the ship, valiantly choosing to remain on board until the last moment to ensure the safety of his crew. The INS Khukri Memorial is a solemn structure built in memory of the brave men who lost their lives in service to their nation.

Gomtimata Beach
