Sonprayag is a village in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state in India. It is nearly 73 Kilometres from Rudraprayag Town, the district headquarter. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 1,880 meters above sea level. Sonprayag is situated at the confluence of two rivers, Basuki and Mandakini. It is one of the most important meeting points on the Kedarnath Route. Sonprayag is a critical junction, one route goes to Kedarnath and another way goes to Triyugi Narayan temple.

Kedarnath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas (shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva) and attracts thousands of devotees every year. From Sonprayag, pilgrims have to trek a distance of approximately 19 kilometers to reach Kedarnath. The trek takes you through picturesque valleys, snow-capped mountains, and scenic landscapes, offering a spiritual and adventurous experience.

Sonprayag Uttarakhand serves as a base camp for the Kedarnath Yatra (pilgrimage), and it is the last point accessible by road before embarking on the trek. The town provides various facilities for pilgrims, including accommodation options like guesthouses and tents, medical facilities, and shops where devotees can buy essential items for their journey.

Sonprayag Geography

Geographically, Sonprayag Uttarakhand is positioned at the confluence of two rivers, the Mandakini and the Basuki. The Mandakini River originates from the Chorabari Glacier near Kedarnath and flows through Sonprayag, eventually merging with the Alaknanda River in Rudraprayag. The Basuki River, on the other hand, originates from the Vasuki Tal (Lake) near Kedarnath and joins the Mandakini River at Sonprayag Uttarakhand.

The nearest major railway station to Sonprayag Uttarakhand is Rishikesh Railway Station, which is around 207 kilometers away. From Rishikesh, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Sonprayag. Sonprayag is well-connected by road. You can reach Sonprayag by hiring a taxi or taking a bus from major cities like Delhi, Dehradun, or Rishikesh. The distance between Delhi and Sonprayag is approximately 450 kilometers, and the journey takes around 12-14 hours.

Haridwar to Sonprayag distance

The distance between Haridwar and Sonprayag Uttarakhand is approximately 226 kilometers by road.
