What is the History

Sa Pa mountain is a famous resort town, about 160 kilometers northeast of Hanoi. It is known for its natural beauty and its history as a center of Buddhist learning. The town was founded in 859 by the monk Xuanzang, who traveled through Vietnam on his way to India. Xuanzang is said to have been so impressed by the beauty of the region that he decided to make his home in Sa Pa. The town prospered as a center of Buddhist learning and tourism. In the 16th century, Sa Pa became a center of trade with China. In the 18th century, the Nguyen Dynasty built a palace in Sa Pa and began to promote the town.

Geology of the area
