To get to the Rattlesnake travellers need to take a shuttle down a dirt road to the entrance of the cave. The shuttle runs continuously during operating hours. The Rattlesnake is open seasonally, typically from March through November. They are closed during the winter months. Rattlesnake saloon geology

The Rattlesnake Saloon Alabama is a cave that is part of a larger system of underground caves and passages that are common in this part of Alabama. The caves were formed by the dissolution of limestone by acidic groundwater. The cave system consists of alternate bands of  Sandstone, limestone and Shale. Hartselle Sandstone and other formation were deposited during the early Cretaceous period, around 145 million years ago. The Hartselle Sandstone is overlain by a layer of limestone that dissolved over time to form the cave system. The cave is characterized by a variety of features, including stalactites, stalagmites, and columns. The cave is also home to a variety of animals, including bats, salamanders, and insects.

Located in a huge natural rock shelter in the Appalachian foothills, the Rattlesnake Saloon delivers old-fashioned Western charm in a stunning natural environment. It is one of Alabama’s most important archaeological sites that housed some of the state’s original inhabitants-Paleolithic Native. The Rattlesnake is a privately owned cave that offers everything from bare-bones campsites, to rent stalls for their horses, and, if you don’t have horses, one can rent those, too.

Some popular options are- Visit the Helen Keller Birthplace- This historic site is located in nearby Tuscumbia, and offers tours of the home where Helen Keller was born and raised. Take a tour of the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio- This famous recording studio has hosted many famous musicians over the years, including Aretha Franklin and the Rolling Stones. Bear Creek Lakes- This recreation area located about an hour from the Rattlesnake Saloon features several campgrounds, as well as fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities.

How to get Rattlesnake Saloon 

The Rattlesnake is located in Tuscumbia, Alabama. There are many way to reach Rattlesnake. From Huntsville one can take US-72 West to AL-247 South. Turn right onto AL-247 South and continue for approximately 5 miles. Turn left onto Co Rd 33 and continue for approximately 3 miles. Turn right onto Co Rd 21 and continue for approximately 3 miles. The Rattlesnake Saloon will be on your right.

From Memphis- Take I-40 East to US-72 East. Continue on US-72 East for approximately 90 miles. Turn right onto Co Rd 21 and continue for approximately 3 miles. The Rattlesnake Saloon will be on your left.
