Port Douglas is a coastal town and locality in the Shire of Douglas, Queensland, Australia. The town is named in Honour of a former Premier of Queensland, John Douglas. Port Douglas developed quickly based on the mining industry and timber occurring area surrounding the Daintree River. The town is previously known as Terri gal, Island Point, Port Owen and Salisbury. The town is situated adjacent to two World Heritage areas, the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. It occupies one of the most scenic settings in Australia, sandwiched between the tropical rainforest of the Daintree and the outer stretches of the Great Barrier Reef. Daintree Rainforest is the world’s oldest tropical rainforest, bursts with Jurassic plants-many different types of ferns, cycads, milky pines, kauri, yews and primitive flowering plants. The Daintree River runs close to the town, and you can sometimes spy saltwater crocodiles resting on its banks. There are cruises which travel down this waterway. Close to Port Douglas, you’ll find the Moss man Gorge, a cleft in a mountainside with a series of freshwater pools. Travellers can explore it via several gentle hiking trails and Aboriginal-guided bush walks. The town’s main attraction (other than the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest) is Four Mile Beach, a crook-shaped stretch of compact sand, trimmed with coconut palms and rocky headlands. Hikes in Port Douglas

The famous Flagstaff Hill Walking Trail have Approx. 1.3 km long trail. The newly developed 1.3 km walking trail provides a link between Four Mile Beach and Rex Smeal Park with magnificent views out towards Low Isles, Snapper Island and the Daintree Rainforest. A breathtaking viewing platform that hovers over the Coral Sea and meanders through bushland up to the Flagstaff Hill Lookout. Travelers can see the majestic beauty of the giant fig tree, with its tendrils that create a dramatic natural archway.
