Kupwara
Kupwara is a district located in the northern part of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Kupwara is known for its picturesque landscapes, mountains, and valleys. The Pohru River (originating in Lolab Valley) and the Mawar River are the two main rivers in the district. Both of them meet the Jhelum River in the Baramulla district. Kupwara region has the best conifer forests with Deodar, Pine, and Fir as the main species. These forests are situated all along the Shams Bari mountain range barricading the valley in the north.
It is located at an altitude of 1615 m. between Pir Pancha lands and Shams Bari mountain ranges. These mountain ranges have beautiful meadows and pastures in their bosom which provide grazing ground for cattle and sheep. These mountain ranges are traversed by famous passes like Sadhna Pass, Farkiyan Gali, and Nagmarg Pass. These passes open into the beautiful valleys of Karnah, Keran, and Drawa areas.

The valley experiences a temperate climate. Winter from November to March is cold with moderate and heavy snowfall. Summers from mid-March to June are mild and of a concise duration and it rains. Weather in the valley region is generally pleasant from April to June.
The hottest month is July (Minimum temperature 6°C, and Maximum temperature 32°C) and the coldest are December–January (Minimum temperature −15°C, and maximum temperature 0°C). Compared with other plain parts of India, Kashmir Valley enjoys a more moderate climate, but weather conditions are unpredictable.
The average annual rainfall in the Kupwara region is 1066.9 mm with an average maximum and minimum temperature of 23.9 °C and 2.9 °C. Also, there is a difference of 119 mm of rainfall between the wettest and driest month.
