The rocks in the park were deposited over millions of years by ancient seas, lakes, and rivers, and then were uplifted and exposed to erosion and weathering. Hoodoos of Bryce Canyon predominantly consists of sedimentary rocks, including limestone, sandstone, and siltstone, which were deposited between 63 and 250 million years ago. The rocks are arranged in layers, with the younger rocks on top and the older rocks on the bottom.

The erosion process that created the hoodoos of Bryce Canyon is complex and occurs through a variety of mechanisms, including frost wedging, water erosion, and chemical weathering. The rocks in the park are particularly susceptible to erosion due to their composition and orientation. This process created the unique spires and formations that are so iconic to the park.
