Seaside Lagoon

Seaside Lagoon typically refers to a man-made beach or swimming area constructed alongside natural bodies of water, such as the ocean or a river. These lagoons are often found in coastal communities and serve as recreational spaces for swimming, sunbathing, and other beach activities. A barrier or breakwater usually encloses them to create a calm, safe swimming environment, particularly in areas where ocean waves and currents may be too rough for casual swimming. Lagoons often feature amenities such as sandy beaches, lifeguard stations, picnic areas, playgrounds, and sometimes even water slides or other attractions.

The Seaside Lagoon Redondo offers a fully enclosed saltwater lagoon. The Lagoon is open Monday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. throughout the 2024 Season. Water that fills Seaside Lagoon comes from the other side of the breakwater, at about 15 meters deep.
The water travels to the nearby steam generating plant where they use it to cool the turbines. The water then travels under the street in large pipes to the Lagoon where it is chlorinated when entering the lagoon and de-chlorinated when exits back into the harbor.
The Seaside Lagoon has approximately 1.5 million gallons of water and has a flow-through rate of approximately 200,000 gallons per hour.
