Bora Bora Island-A Romantic Destination on Volcanic Terrain

Bora Bora is a major tourist destination, famous for its seaside luxury resorts, lagoons and plentiful coconut trees. One of 9 islands within the Society Islands, Bora Bora was formed over 7 million years ago by a volcano. Like most of the islands of French Polynesia, Bora Bora is surrounded by a ring of coral reefs and an atoll. The Motu, or small island, is known for white sand beaches lined with coconut trees. The clear, turquoise waters of the South Pacific Ocean and the surrounding coral reef, make for some memorable scuba diving with tropical-coloured fish and giant manta rays gliding through a coral reef. Mount Otemanu is the tallest point on the island and is breathtaking at Bora Bora’s centre. The island is the centre of the romantic universe and the most intimate and idyllic vacation destination.

Geography and Geology

Bora Bora is an island group in the Leeward Islands. The Leeward Islands comprise the Islands of French Polynesia,  which is an overseas territory of the French Republic in the Pacific Ocean. The main island is surrounded by a lagoon and a barrier reef. In the centre of the island are the remnants of an extinct volcano, rising to two peaks, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu. The highest point is at 727 m. Bora Bora is part of the Commune of Bora-Bora, which also includes the atoll of Tupai. The major settlement. Bora Bora is located northwest of Tahiti, about 260 km from Papeete, Tahiti.

Bora-Bora is part of a group of volcanic islands. It is an extinct volcano, which was active in the Upper Pliocene between 3.45 and 3.10 million years ago, and then underwent dormant. A strong erosion under a hot and humid tropical climate shaped the region. The bay of Tuuraapuo was the main crater of the volcano, which collapsed and make islets or “Motu” Toopua and Toopua-iti.  The volcanic rocks are of basaltic type.

Bora Bora weather-Bora Bora has a tropical monsoon climate. Temperatures are consistent throughout the year, with hot days and warm nights. The dry season lasts from June to October. The rainy season is between November and April, with a heavy atmosphere and sometimes heavy rains.

Snorkelling and scuba diving in and around Bora Bora’s lagoon are popular activities. Sharks and rays inhabit the surrounding waters, and feeding shark is a wonderful feeling. In addition to the existing islands of Bora Bora, the artificial island of Motu Marfo has been added in the northeastern corner of the lagoon, which is a famous resort. The main attraction of Bora Bora island is the lagoon. By glass bottom boat, diving and snorkelling, one can explore the reef with colourful coral fish.

Bora Bora French Polynesia is a popular hiking destination. Island’s most popular trails are hidden in the lush, tropical jungle such as the Sacred Cave of Anau or Mount Pahia. Stroll around the harbour’s waterfront and see traditional Polynesian canoes to luxury cruise ships, the harbour is a hot spot for marine action. There is a ferry service to the harbour from the airport. You can also reach the harbour by motorboat.

The best time to visit Bora Bora Island

The best times to go to Bora Bora are November and April. These seasons offer fine weather with temperatures during the winter a bit cooler than the summer months, around 28°C. The high season runs from May to October when rain showers are isolated and the number of tourists swells. Flights to Bora Bora- Bora Bora is a small airport that functions as a regional hub to the main Tahiti Airport. Air Tahiti provide the service from Tahiti to Bora Bora.
