Summer (May to September)

Nights can still be chilly, and temperatures may drop to around 0 to 5 degrees Celsius. This is the most suitable time to visit when the weather is relatively mild, and the glacier is accessible.

Autumn (October to November)

As autumn sets in, temperatures start to drop. Daytime temperatures may range from 5 to 15 degrees Celsius. Nights become colder, with temperatures possibly falling below freezing.

Winter (December to February)

Winter brings heavy snowfall to the region, covering Thajiwas Glacier and its surroundings. Daytime temperatures can range from -5 to 5 degrees Celsius. Nights are extremely cold, with temperatures often dropping well below freezing.

Spring marks the transition from winter to summer. Daytime temperatures gradually increase, ranging from 0 to 10 degrees Celsius. Nights remain cold, with temperatures around or below freezing.

Thajiwas Glacier Trek

Zero Point is located in the Nubra Valley, part of the Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated at a high altitude, and the journey to Nubra Valley is an adventure in itself, crossing the famous Khardung La Pass, one of the world’s highest motorable passes.

How to reach Thajiwas Glacier

The nearest airport is the Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport in Srinagar. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Sonamarg. The airport is well-connected to major cities in India. The nearest major railway station is the Jammu Tawi Railway Station. From Jammu, you can either hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Srinagar and then proceed to Sonamarg.

Sonmarg to Thajiwas Glacier distance

Sonamarg is approximately 80 kilometers from Srinagar, and the journey takes about 3 hours by road. Regular bus services operate from Srinagar to Sonamarg, or you can hire a taxi.  If you are coming from Leh, Sonamarg is around 350 kilometers away. The journey by road offers spectacular views of the landscapes but can take approximately 9-10 hours.
