Beas Kund Trek- A High Altitude Adventure

Overview

The Beas Kund Trek is located deep in the Himalayas which is also the source of the Beas River. This trek starts from Solang Valley, which is popular for its adventurous sports like skiing and paragliding in the valley. While trekking you will witness the most beautiful views of snow-covered mountains, beautiful sunset & sunrise, and various Himalayan peaks like Hanuman Tibba, Indrasen, and Deo Tibba. After reaching the base camp you can enjoy the jamming session with a bonfire and overnight stay in your camps under the blanket of stars in the sky. The trek will start from Solang. You have to reach Manali first to reach Solang, you can take the train from Joginder Nagar railway station which is the nearest railway station to Manali and is also well connected to most of the cities. Beas Kund, located inside the Kullu Valley, is known as a holy lake. This is a straightforward and short-duration trek which makes it best for beginners and the best time to plan for this is in summer for a smooth trekking experience.

Difficulty level of Beas Kund trek 

The trek to Beas Kund is rated a moderate challenge, so beginners and persons with some trekking experience will find it enjoyable. The route extends to the Beas River, reaching its essence, featuring a clearly defined way with gentle slopes that offer a mild walk. Although at Beas Kund the altitude is around 3,700 meters – one needs to acclimatize, especially for people not used to such a big elevation. The trail is surrounded by great views of mountain tops and valleys are largely open from May to October. The Beas Kund trek is amazing for those who love nature and have a passion for trekking. 

Beas Kund trek itinerary 

Day 1: trek from Solang-bakar via dhundi 

  • Take a transport to Solang from Old Manali 
  • start your trek from Solang.
  • The trek will start early in the morning after breakfast. We will trek to Bakar which is located at an altitude of 3149m 
  • It is an 8 km-long trek, on the route you will have the most enchanting view of Hanuman Tibba.
  • After reaching the base camp, take some rest and enjoy the view of beautiful scenery from there.
  • Enjoy your dinner with the bonfire and a jamming session 
  • Stay overnight in the camps

Day 2: Trek to Beas Kund and then back to Bakar 

  • Wake up early in the morning to witness the most beautiful sunrise from the peaks of the Himalayas.  
  • After having breakfast start your trek to Beas Kund which is located at an altitude of 3893m.
  • While trekking the breathtaking views of snow-covered mountains will leave you amazed. Deo Tibba and Indrasen will be easily visible from there.
  • After trekking you will reach the Beas Kund which is also the source of the Beas river
  • After reaching the top, take some rest before you start the trek back to Dhundi which is almost 5 km away.
  • After reaching the campsite, have your dinner and head toward your tent.

Day 3: trek from bakar-Solang valley 

  • Wake up early in the morning to enjoy the beautiful sunrise. Have your breakfast and trek back from Bakar to Solang Valley.
  •  Drive back to Manali with the beautiful memories you created while trekking.

Best time for the Beas Kund trek 

Trekking in summers 

If you are planning a trek to Beas Kund then selecting the best time is one of the most important things before you reach there. May to June is the best time for this trek as it is the summer season during these months. The snow starts to melt in summer and the trails are clear of snow which will make your trekking experience easier. You will get to see some beautiful ice-topped mountains and get some amazing pictures clicked with the view.

Trekking in monsoon

You should avoid planning a trek in the month of monsoon which is from August to September. In the rainy season, it can be dangerous for trekking because the trails get slippery and you will find yourself stuck in the rain. 

Trekking in winters 

If you want to experience snow then you can visit in October which is the most suitable weather for winter lovers. This is the time of the starting of winter and the trials are not blocked by snow, in October it is the time before the winter sets in completely. 

Things to carry for the trek 

The list of essentials to pack when preparing for the Beas Kund trek is extensive and an individual must take care of all the necessary things before performing this venture.

  1. Trekking Gear: Backpack with rain cover and Trekking pole (should be used but not a must)
  2. Clothing: Waterproof and windproof jacket, Quick-drying trekking pants, and Moisture-wicking base layers
  3. Weather Protection: Waterproof raincoat or poncho, UV-protective sunglasses, Sunscreen with high SPF and Lip balm with SPF
  4. Sleeping gear: Tent (for camping; confirmation shall be required of the trek organizers), Insulation mattress, or mat.
  5. Backpack Essentials: Second pair of headlamps or flashlights with extra batteries and Basic first aid kit
  6. Food and Nutrition: Some snacks are high-energy (nuts, energy bars, etc.) and Portable stove and fuel.
  7. Personal Items: Quick-dry towel and Personal medications (if any)
  8. Navigation and Communication: The maps and compass or the GPS instrument and Mobile with a fully charged portable charger
  9. Miscellaneous: Binoculars (optional) and Multi-tool or knife
  10. Cash: Remember to get some amount of cash for any unforeseen spending or in case of emergencies.

Before going on a trek gather all the information regarding the route, weather, accessibility, and other necessary things. You should follow the instructions provided by your tour guide.
