Ooty Lake is a man-made lake located near Ooty in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu, India. Covering an area of about 26 hectares (64 acres), it is surrounded by groves of eucalyptus trees, with a railway line running along one of its shores. The boathouse on the lake is a major tourist attraction, offering boating facilities and scenic views. Every year in May, during the summer season, the lake comes alive with two days of boat races and boat pageantry, making it a vibrant cultural event for visitors and locals alike.

The boat house beside the lake was established by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC). Boating remains the main attraction here, with options such as paddle boats, rowboats, and motorboats. The boat house also includes a garden, a mini-train, and an amusement park. Additional highlights are a TTDC-run canteen and pony rides available near the entrance.

At Ooty Lake, visitors can enjoy fun activities like a mini-train ride (a favorite among children), 7D cinema, horror and mirror houses, dashing cars, break-dance, and the Columbus ride. Nearby, tourists can also try horse riding and cycling for an added experience.

How to reach Ooty Lake

The closest airport is Coimbatore International Airport, located about 88 km from Ooty. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Ooty, and then reach the lake by local transport. The nearest railway station is Ooty Railway Station (Udhagamandalam), just around 2 km away. Ooty Lake is well connected by road. It lies about 2 km from the Ooty bus stand, making it easily accessible by auto-rickshaw, taxi, or even on foot if you prefer a short walk.
