Maithon Jharkhand is one of the main tourist attractions in Jharkhand. It derived its name from “Mai Ka Sthan”, meaning the place for the Hindu Goddess. It is said to be named after the nearby temple of Kalyaneshwari. Maithon is 46 kilometres from Dhanbad and located on the banks of river Barakar. It is also home to the country’s first multipurpose Dam, which was established in 1958. The Maithon is located on a picturesque landscape amidst a beautiful lake and green forests. Maithon Jharkhand weather- The climate in Maithon is generally classified as tropical with hot summers and mild winters. During the summer months from March to June, temperatures in Maithon can reach as high as 40°C with high humidity levels. Monsoon season typically begins in June and lasts until September, with heavy rainfall and occasional thunderstorms. From October to February, the weather in Maithon Jharkhand is cooler with temperatures averaging around 15-20°C.
Maithon Dam
The Maithon Dam has located 48 km from Dhanbad, in the state of Jharkhand. The dam with an underground power station is one of its kind in the whole of South East Asia. It has the capacity to generate around 60,000 KW of electric power. A Reservoir was built behind the Dam spread over 65 square kilometres. This was developed by the Damodar Valley Corporation, way back in the year 1948. The dam is about 4.7 kilometres long and about 50 meters high.

How to reach Maithon Jharkhand
The nearest railhead of the Maithon Dam is at Barakar, lying 8 km away on the Dhanbad-Howrah rail line. Regular bus services are available from Dhanbad to Maithon. Cab or other light vehicles can also be hired to get Maithon.
