Within the gorge, the 13,379-acre Clifty Wilderness Area is entirely encompassed, adding to the area’s natural significance. How to Reach Red River George
The Gorge is conveniently located in east-central Kentucky, making it easily accessible by road.
By Car: The Gorge is about an hour’s drive southeast of Lexington, Kentucky. Take I-64 East and exit onto KY-11 South or KY-15 South, depending on your specific destination within the Gorge area. The scenic byway and major attractions like Nada Tunnel and Natural Bridge State Resort Park are well-marked.
By Air: The nearest airport is Blue Grass Airport (LEX) in Lexington, which offers car rentals for the hour-long drive to the Gorge. For visitors flying into Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) or Louisville International Airport (SDF), the drive is roughly 2-3 hours.
