Mechuka
Mechukha, derived from the Memba dialect, translates to “the land blessed with medicinal snow-fed water, rivers, and streams.” In this dialect, ‘Men’ means medicine, ‘Chu’ refers to water, and ‘Kha’ means snow. Situated 1,829 meters above sea level in the Mechukha Valley along the Yargep Chu/Siyom River in the Shi Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh, India, Mechukha is a town, assembly constituency, and subdivision. Before the 1950s, the valley was known as Pachakshiri.
Located 29 km north of Menchukha, the Line of Actual Control (McMahon Line) marks the India-Tibet border, separating Indian and Chinese territories. Mechukha is accessible via one of the strategic India-China Border Roads and is located 47 km northwest of the district headquarters in Tato and 187 km north of Aalo. The town also has an AGL airstrip.
