There are also large amounts of halophytic bacteria and archaea in the salt crusts of the lake that could also be the cause of the lake’s interesting appearance.

Lake Hillier in Australia isn’t the only pink lake in the world; another famous pink lake is on the coast of Senegal, called Lake Reba. These same algae also flourish in the Dead Sea.
