Rewa is a major town located 210 km. south of Allahabad. The city is located on the Vindhyan plateau of Madhya Pradesh and is mainly irrigated by Tons and its tributaries. Satna in the west and Sidhi district is situated in South-East direction. The area of Rewa is 6240 square km. The Rewa plateau within the Vindhyan is drained by the Tamas or Tons and the Son river and their tributaries. Tamas and its tributaries consist of Significant waterfalls. They are Chachai Falls on the Bihad River, a tributary of the Tamas, The Keoti Falls on the Mahana River, a tributary of the Tamas, Bahuti Falls on the Odda River, a tributary of the Belah River, ( a tributary of the Tamas), and Purwa Falls on the Tamsa river. The Rewa fort is also the main tourist attraction of Rew.  There are two rivers behind the fort which gives the scenic beauty to the fort. Apart from this number of Tourist attractions are present in Rewa.

Geologically the district is mainly bounded by Vindhyan Formation. The area forms a part of the northern marginal belt of the vindhayn supergroup, bordering the Indo-Gangetic plains. The quartzites, sandstones, shales, and limestone, belonging to the upper Vindhyans formation, are generally exposed in the district. The recent sediments cover ranging in thickness from 15 to 45 m, in the valley of the major rivers and along their, tributaries overlying the Vindhyan Supergroup basement. The geological succession in the district is as follows and the geological map is shown on Plate.

Chachai Waterfalls

It is situated 46 kilometers from Rewa, at the edge of the Chitrakoot Hills, a part of the Kaimur Range. Chachai Waterfalls are more than 130 meters in height and are situated on River Bihad. These falls are the highest waterfalls in Madhya Pradesh and are counted among the highest single-drop waterfalls in India. The Waterfall was once praised by former Indian Prime Minister Sh. Jawahar Lal Nehru for its breathtaking Scenery and beauty. However, after the river diversion has been constructed on the river, all of the water of the Bihad river is split into two halves, one for the generation of Electricity at the Tons Hydroelectric Power Plant and another half for irrigation in nearby villages. This cause leaves absolutely no water for the Chachai Waterfalls. The course of the river has been changed and since then, the waterfalls are near dry.

Bahuti waterfall

Bahuti is the highest waterfall in Madhya Pradesh which is in the river Sellar as it rushes down the edge of the Valley of Mauganj to join the Bihad River, which is a tributary of Tamsa or Tons River. It is an example of a nick point caused by rejuvenation. Knick point also called a nick point or simply nick represents breaks in slopes in the longitudinal profile of a river caused by rejuvenation. The break-in channel gradient allows water to fall vertically giving rise to a waterfall. It has a height of 198 meters.

Keoti waterfalls

Keoti waterfalls are formed in River Mahana, a tributary of River Tons that descends down the Rewa Plateau. The total height of this waterfall is 130 m. Many adventure sports and activities are available which will surely attract many tourists. It is an ideal place for a day out owing to its scenic beauty. Keoti Falls is an example of a nick point caused by rejuvenation.

Purwa Waterfall

Purwa Water Falls is a vertical fall of 70 meters and forms when River Tons comes down through Rewa Plateau. It has religious significance according to Hindu mythology as it is close to places that are associated with the Epic Ramayana. It is an awe-inspiring picnic spot and is also near the holy pilgrimage of Basawan Mama.

Govindpur palace

Govindgarh Palace was a summer retreat for the King of Rewa as it is surrounded by some beautiful waterfalls. The construction of the palace dates back to the year 1882 AD, by Baghela Dynasty. This palace is also considered Mini Vrindavan and is famous for the Sundreja Mangoes and its breezy location.

HOW TO REACH

The scenic tourism destination Chachai Waterfalls is located close to Rewa city. From here you can take a Road journey towards it. All waterfalls are close proximity within a radius of 50 km. Khajuraho is the nearest Airport (180kms) from Rewa city. The airports have average flight connectivity options.
